Kenai River Guided Fishing FAQ

Planning a trip on the Kenai River? Here’s everything you need to know before your guided fishing trip in Alaska with Lost Boys Fishing LLC.

What should I bring? +

We provide all fishing gear. You’ll just need:

  • Alaska fishing license (King stamp if applicable)
  • Food and drinks
  • Layered clothing
  • Rain gear (jacket + pants)
  • Sunglasses, hat, sunscreen
  • Camera or phone

Optional: small bag, medications, cooler in your vehicle for fish transport

What’s included? +

Included: Rods, reels, tackle, professional guide instruction, and fish cleaning/filleting.

Not included: License, food, transportation, professional fish processing, and gratuity.

What species do we target? +

Kenai River Trout: Trophy rainbows (20”+). Peak: Aug–Oct.

Alaska Salmon: Sockeye (July), Kings (Seasonal), Silvers (Late Summer).

Do I need experience? +

No. Our trips are designed for all skill levels, from first-time anglers to experienced fishermen.

What should I wear? +

Dress in layers:

Base layer

Insulation layer

Waterproof outer layer

Conditions on the Kenai can change quickly, even during peak salmon fishing season in Alaska.

Do you provide waders? +
Yes we provide waders up to size 13 shoe (Larger by special request). You’re also welcome to bring your own, especially for fly fishing trips.
How many people can join? +
Most trips accommodate 2–5 anglers. Private trips are available.
What happens to the fish? +
We clean and fillet your catch. Local processors are available to vacuum seal and ship your Alaska salmon. Trout fishing is catch and release only.
What if the weather is bad? +
Trips run in most conditions, but safety comes first. If necessary, we’ll reschedule.
Can I bring food or alcohol? +
Yes. Bring whatever you’d like. Alcohol is allowed in moderation.
Should I tip my guide? +
Yes—15–25% is standard for guided fishing trips in Alaska. Our guides work hard to put you on the fish!
